MTS launches 3G in St. Petersburg

    MTS announced the launch of the commercial launch of a 3G network in Russia. The first city with a working network of the 3rd generation will be St. Petersburg. It also announced technical readiness for launch in Sochi, Yekaterinburg and Kazan. By the end of this year, 3G will cover 10 cities, and in 2009 - 40 cities across the country.

    As additional services, video calls, mobile TV and international 3G roaming for foreign guests are indicated.

    MTS owns licenses for 3G networks in Uzbekistan and Armenia, where it is also planned to launch 3rd generation networks in 2009. In total, the company plans to invest $ 1.6 billion in the development of 3G networks in the next 3 years.
