Opt-out of ICQ
the post concerns any instant messenger, such as XMPP, AIM, MSN, etc.
The last week I have been experimenting with myself - I absolutely do not use ICQ. Despite the fact that I am an ICQ user with the experience that I have a beautiful six-character, despite the fact that I recently had a hundred contacts, I decided that such communication should be stopped.
The phone is intended for conversations. Yes, mobile communication is more expensive than ICQ - for me this is a plus , as it helps to value time.
I have not considered the option of VoIP, because few familiar users. Although, it seems to me, IP-telephony is perfect for negotiations with remote customers.
Well, but for correspondence there was, is and will be email.
While I'm at work, ICQ is launched at home with an answering machine (for those comrades who will still write):

Causes
- ICQ is distracting . It doesn't matter if I have eclipse or quake open - an incoming message makes me tear myself away from the process, at least mentally.
- ICQ is unproductive . There is no guarantee that you will be answered immediately. Nevertheless, the format of IM-communication implies that the answer needs to wait and spend attention on this.
- ICQ is uninformative . No matter how fast you type on the keyboard, speaking is still faster. In addition, ICQ does not convey intonation - and after all, non-verbalics make up 90% of the information flow, as NLPshniks say.
- ICQ creates the illusion of public access . You can always send a quote from the bash, lolka, the hated "immediately sent it, or not ...", ask for advice ...
- Using ICQ is easier to talk about . A conversation that takes 5-10 minutes over the phone can take hours to reach over ICQ - have you noticed?
