The first Russian Wikipedia conference will be held in St. Petersburg

    On October 27–28, 2007, the first Wikipedia of the free encyclopedia Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects in Russian will be held in St. Petersburg . The event will be held on the basis of St. Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (SPbSU ITMO). The conference will be attended by about 100 people involved in editing articles on Wikipedia and other related projects: Wiktionary , Wikitsitnik , Wikimedia Commons . It is expected the arrival of participants from Russian cities, from abroad, as well as representatives of Wikipedia sections in other languages: Ukrainian, Belarusian, Chuvash, Ossetian, etc.

    On the first day of the conference, video greetings from active Wikipedia participants will be shown, a press conference will be held and reports will be heard on current issues of the project’s development.

    On the second day, several round tables will be organized, some of which will be devoted to “intra-Wikipedia” issues: on the content and technologies of Wikipedia, on interaction in the community of authors, rules, guidelines and copyright. A group of thematic round tables will also be held: in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, in mathematical, biological, historical and other sections of Wikipedia, on the interaction of Wikipedia and the scientific community, the role and place of the world's largest encyclopedia in modern education.
