Microsoft renamed its IPTV platform to Mediaroom

Microsoft on Sunday announced a trademark change for its Internet TV platform.

Microsoft Mediaroom, formerly known as Microsoft Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), allows you to connect televisions to home computers, giving users the ability to watch digital television over the Internet, as well as access to hard drives to listen to music, or view photos on large screens.

The software giant also claims that Mediaroom allows you to run some applications that require Internet access without a browser, so users can watch online streaming video, or view photos uploaded to the Web.

Microsoft also introduced tools for developers of the Multimedia Application Environment, allowing them to create various applications for the Mediaroom platform.
