Let's face vkontakte.ru and fakultet.ru foreheads

When I looked at the Vkontakte and Faculty projects for the first time , I recalled the words of Master Yoda: “ The clonic war has begun ...

Both are pure Facebook clones . No difference! The same interface, the same chips ... Photo albums, messages on Ajax and other dregs. Even the logo in the address bar is the same.

But what interested me, the popularity of Vkontakte is much higher than the popularity of the Faculty. And the dynamics of development of the “Faculty” is much worse than the dynamics of “In contact”. The "faculty" is simply marking time.

Thought number 1.Vkontakte appeared earlier than the Faculty. To be precise, then for five months. During this time, he managed to accumulate a user base and now it’s more interesting for a new “student” to wander around in VK and look for friends there. Kelly's laws in action! Specifically, “The more, the more” - a network that has a large number of nodes attracts even more users.

Thought number 2. PR "In contact" was more directional. The target group has been selected more accurately. “Faculty”, although it proposed a new way to attract users - by shares- did not aim at students. The idea is cool, but I did not like the implementation. For 100 shares, you need to complete so many different tasks, just some kind of puzzle, I’d better buy shares of VTB or Sberbank! :) As a result, the campaign of the first project annealed, and the second merged (and burned in hell;) ...

Thought number 3. Perhaps there is some option (feature) on Vkontakte that attracts users. It may be better site usability, a list of universities or schools worked out. Exactly, a list of schools. At the "Faculty" I could not add my school to the profile ...
Or maybe the inertia of consciousness is to blame for popularity: "What kind of" Faculty "- there Vasya is already sitting on" In contact "!" But what is inertia when both projects are less than six months old?

The bottom line is the question:Why, nevertheless, did “Vkontakte” do “Faculty”?
