French parliament moves to Linux

    The French National Assembly plans to use the Linux operating system on 1,154 computers installed in its departments.

    The decision of the French parliament is dictated by the reluctance to depend on a monopoly software provider. Linux distributor has not yet been selected, but it has already been decided that the “parliamentary” computers will use the Firefox browser and the Open Office suite.

    French authorities are already using Linux and Apache on their servers, but such a massive "migration" of working computers to a freeware OS will take place for the first time, reports Ars Technica .
