Google programming contest won Russian

    The winner of Google Global Code Jam 2006 , one of the most respected international programming contests, was Peter Mitrichev, a student at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University, ITAR-TASS reported . The Russian managed to become the best among the 100 finalists of the competition. He received a cash prize of $ 10 thousand.

    Another one of our compatriots, Andrei Stankevich, got into the top three. He took third place in the competition. The second place went to Ying Wang, an American of Chinese descent. He, like Andrei Stankevich, was awarded a prize of $ 5 thousand.

    This year, Russia was ahead of the other 23 participating countries in the number of programmers who qualified for the finals, Google notes. In the top hundred, we recall, there were 32 Russians.
