Google warned a Russian journalist about an attempt to overheat by the special services
Google warns owners of Gmail mailboxes about hacking attempts, including from 2012 separately - about hacking attempts by the special services.
This particular warning was given to the Russian journalist Roman Shleinov, regional editor of the anti-corruption project Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, writes Meduza.io. The message states that less than 0.1% of Gmail users face such attacks.
Two weeks ago, Roman, as an employee of the Center for the Study of Corruption (OCCRP) and a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), applied to VTB for comment on the wife of the head of VTB, Andrei Kostin. The journalist wondered if she was the beneficiary of the offshore in the Bahamas, as indicated in the “Panamanian archives”.
Google does not say how it determines who the hacker who “tries to steal the password” works for. Perhaps we are talking about official requests from the special services (satisfied or not).
In January 2016, Internet Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Herman Klimenko complainedThat Google ignores requests of the Russian special services. “As a rule, Google responds to 32 thousand requests per year from its FBI or NSA and to one request from our law enforcement agencies. We must honestly admit that they do not respond to our requests, they simply ignore them, ”he said. In his opinion, Russian “criminals” more often use foreign services, as Russian IT companies cooperate with the authorities: “This is even a small competitive advantage,” he added.
