Russian Communications Minister announced the beginning of the development of the Russian mobile OS

Russian Communications Minister Nikolai Nikiforov on May 5 announced the start of work on the creation of a domestic mobile operating system. The development will be the company Open Mobile Platform (OMP), whose office is located in Innopolis, Tatarstan.

OMP is going to hire additional staff to work on the project. Namely - a technical writer, tester and developers are required. From the description of the company it becomes clear that Linux is taken as the basis for the new OS. "The main objective of the product is successful competition with the Android operating system in the market of low-cost mobile devices," - said in a statement.

It is worth recalling that Jolla won the competition for the development of the Russian mobile OS last year . The total amount of such a project is about 2.2 billion rubles. Most likely, the new operating system will be created on the basis of Sailfish .

The development of a domestic mobile OS is carried out as part of a software import substitution program.
