Most Useful Mail.ru Design Conf × Dribbble Meetup 2019 Papers by True Engineering

At the end of June, a major conference on the design of Mail.ru Design Conf × Dribbble Meetup 2019 was held in Moscow. Recordings from the broadcast are already online, so we selected the most interesting reports to make it easier for you to navigate. We will tell you more about them in the article.

Maxim Zhestkov - Path and tools ( report recording )

Maxim Zhestkov , motion designer from Ulyanovsk, opened the conference.

First of all, he is known for his work, which is so cool in itself that Max receives orders to install the installation in an office or hotel (it looks fascinatingly realistic). However, so far the artist has not talked about his principles.

It was all the more interesting to listen to his first public speech at the conference. The report is a frank essay about the path of the designer, finding inspiration and following his own creative principles.

After the report, it becomes clear that a cool project starts with a strong idea.

Tinkoff Design Team ( report recording )

This is the first public appearance by the Tinkoff design team. It turned out to be very detailed: from the portrait of the employee to the daily changes of the whale. Tight, we can say the ultimate report. As much as possible in the case.

They showed a workflow on the example of developing a personal account of Internet banking. The report will be primarily interested in product teams working and developing a design system (spoiler - there are two UI-kit in Tinkoff).

The presentation gives a simple and concise explanation of why it is worth abandoning the public library of components: for visitors this is a one-time fact-finding review, for the team - constant support and updates.

Oleg Frolov - Experiments on Interfaces ( report recording )

Firstly, it is beautiful. Oleg showed a show case from his works.

Secondly, Oleg’s projects are an excellent example of solving a non-trivial task in the interface.

We can’t call Oleg’s performance instructions for use. Rather, it is a free essay and reflection on what the interface and interaction can be.

We recommend the report separately because of the story about the pet project. Oleg advises not to use technologies that slow you down, not to dig in and release it in a day. Such a project helps the designer understand what development is and get endorphins from the completed work.

Pavel Laptev and Alexander Artsvuni (Farfetch) - The Evolution of Prototyping ( report recording )

A powerful demo of designers from the Farfetch mobile team about design automation, prototyping and working with engineers.

Five reasons to watch the report:
    • If you want to get away from the development of design specifications and product design documentation,
    • If you want to shorten the development cycle from three sprints to one,
    • If you want to get closer to the release version,
    • If you want to unite an international team,
    • If in your team every designer is an engineer, and an engineer is a designer.

Andrey Shugalsky ( report recording )

These are typography and 3D design that have come very far.

It is curious that before Andrei worked at Qiwi and worked on interfaces.

There was no demand for unlimited visual creativity in Qiwi, but at Rocketbank, all of Andrei’s visuals and concerts went to prod.

His talk is not about product design and development. The visual sugar, grotesque and endless experiment in the images of Andrey speak for him. Speech - the answer to the question why business needs key images and animations on the verge of a foul.

Acronis Design Team ( report recording )

Acronis made a presentation at once in several areas: branding, communications, interfaces. His team is responsible for the entire design: Digital, Brand, Event, Product. In the report, they share experience in working together in several time zones and projects on how to make a recognizable style.

An important emphasis in the report is on the responsibility of the designer in a project with a large release cycle. A feature of the product team is a long development cycle. Therefore, it is important to work out everything so as not to make changes every week.

From the report you will learn:
    • how to maintain consistency among the company's products and communications
    • how to localize an illustration without fakap
    • and spread a single branded storyline to different products and solutions.

    Mail.ru - Re-branding and conference style ( report recording )

Mail.ru spoke about its first major rebranding in 18 years of the company’s existence. Rebranding also coincided with a mail redesign. TK of this rebranding looked like this: it was necessary to maintain the loyalty of regular users and attract a new young audience. And do not fall under the suspicion that naphthalene is being pushed into it. The new blue color of the brand was tested on focus groups.

Curious fact: rebranding was a competition between teams. The work was carried out simultaneously by different teams, internal and external, in order to form an objective space of decisions. The result is a successive solution that can be applied to the entire ecosystem of the company.

It was also interesting to listen about double diamond - a design model that was actively used in the formation of the decision space.

QIWI - How to be a paint drip designer ( talk )

The Qiwi team discusses what is and is not in the competencies and responsibilities of the designer. For example, the requirements for a professional are texts, analytics, an understanding of the business, and research-based work. However, Qiwi is changing the paradigm: deep immersion of the designer in these topics is a plus rather than multitasking due to inept management.

Qiwi also introduced the Growth Team, which independently generates hypotheses and tests them to create insights. We all understand that activities are useful. So it will be interesting to follow their work and find out what will come of it.

Also in the report is an interesting story by Katya Lavrentieva, the designer of Conscience, who shares her research experience and interviews with users. A lot of practice and benefit.

Superdesigners Studio ( report recording )

Do you remember the full name of the Mail.ru Design Conf × Dribbble Meetup 2019 conference? For the second part, the “superdesigners" were fully responsible. Performance - a review without details and details.

The process of learning something is unlikely to succeed, but you are guaranteed to get aesthetic pleasure.
