Why go to "Industrial Programming" in the St. Petersburg HSE?

This year, a new master's program in Industrial Programming is launched at the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg . This program, like the Master's Program in Software Development at ITMO University, was created in collaboration with JetBrains . Today we will tell you what these two graduate schools have in common and how they differ.

What do these programs have in common?

    • Both master's programs were developed “from scratch” in collaboration with representatives of leading IT companies and current scientists from various fields of computer science.
    • The training on both programs is very dense and is designed for students who are willing to spend most of their time studying.
    • Both the HSE - St. Petersburg and the ITMO University have focused on practice: during each semester, students work on training projects under the supervision of leaders, and at the end of the semester present their results to teachers and classmates. In addition, between the first and second year undergraduates undergo mandatory summer internships.
    • In both master's programs, small sets are planned, small groups in practical classes, regular surveys of students and other forms of close interaction between students and teachers.
    • Some teachers will work in both master's programs.
    • Location

The building of the St. Petersburg HSE, in which the St. Petersburg School of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science operates , is located across the street from the Times Business Center, where almost all ITMO master classes are held. This photo of the HSE building on Kantemirovskaya 3A was taken from the window of the ITMO classroom.

    Then what is the difference?

The Master's program at the St. Petersburg HSE will specialize in machine learning and data analysis, allowing an applicant to master both basic and fairly advanced and modern topics in the field of machine learning and data analysis (more about what students expect on this program is written here ).

Master's program at ITMO University specializes in software development and related fields, including the theory of programming languages and the application of machine learning methods in software development.

As a result, these two master's programs practically do not overlap in courses: compare the curricula of Industrial Programming at the Higher School of Economics - St. Petersburg and Software DevelopmentITMO University.

Despite this, we want to keep the possibility of interaction between these two programs among themselves. What is it about? We want students of one program to have the opportunity to take courses of the second program that they are interested in and vice versa. To this end, from next year we plan to transfer programs to the network mode by concluding an agreement between the Higher School of Economics - St. Petersburg, ITMO University and JetBrains. In the upcoming academic year, we will offer students of both programs relevant courses as part of electives. In addition, some of the team projects that we will offer for student practice will also be common, i.e. students from two universities may work together on the same project.

Admission campaigns for both master's programs will begin on June 20 and last until August 5. Choose the one that is more interesting to you and apply!
