Russian ophthalmologists talked about bionic vision. The new mobile application demonstrates the work of cyber

Our eyes and their ability to see is a complex biological mechanism. It took millions of years of evolution to form it. But what if this unique mechanism suddenly fails? Mankind took a step back in the era of IT technology less than half a century ago - an instant by the standards of nature - but it has already learned to restore, and sometimes replace, living elements with cybernetic ones.

This was able to verify each participant in the interactive lecture "How to restore vision? Bionic visual prostheses and virtual reality ”, held in the walls of MSTU. Bauman February 20. The event was held by the experts of the Sensor-Tech research and production laboratory, a Moscow developer of technologies for people with hearing and visual impairments.

Doctors talked about the existing experience with the use of bionic prostheses of the retina of the eye, which currently have two Russians. Modern technology has allowed completely blind people to partially regain the ability to see the world around them. And although modern “mechanical eyes” are very limited, in the future the quality of artificial vision will increase and at some point will be able to fully restore the lost visual functions, the organizers of the event are sure.

The lecture participants were shown the development of the Sensor-Tech Laboratory - the first Russian VR-simulator that allows anyone who wants to "try on" a bionic retinal implant and see the world with "cybernetic vision."

See My World is implemented as a free application on a smartphone and is available for open access. In addition to “bionic vision”, it contains information about all the most common diseases of vision, as well as how to prevent and treat them. The demonstration part includes a simulation of each of these violations - anyone downloading the application will be able to “look” at the world through the eyes of people with serious eye diseases or cyber-people using modern visual prostheses.

In 2017, the Sensor-Tech Laboratory, together with the Blind-Deaf Support Foundation Soyedinenie and other partners, participated in the first operations in Russia to install a bionic implant for blind people. And since then, it has been systematically promoting research and technology, which in the future will help the blind to see.

Lecture at Moscow State Technical University Bauman was the first in a series of interactive events dedicated to new technologies. The same lectures will be held in Kaluga, Samara, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg. The laboratory is looking for partners who want to host an event on the basis of their own site and invites young scientists and those who are interested in artificial vision technologies to participate in the project.

Detailed information on bionic prosthetics projects is presented on the website of the Sensor-Tech Laboratory .
