Lenovo Yoga: A Brief History and Mini Review of the Yoga 900

For a couple of months now I have been using the Lenovo Yoga 900 as the main working device instead of the Yoga 11S and U410 Touch - a new ultrabook has replaced both gadgets. The Yoga 900 received a 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 3200 x 1800 - just between 11.6 "and 14" of my old laptops, high performance - the latest sixth-generation Intel Core i7 and 16 GB of RAM, and low weight - 1, 3 kg In this post - a short digression into the history of Yoga and a brief overview of the Yoga 900.

Although transformers have a rich history, it is the popularity of the Lenovo Yoga form factor that led HP, Dell and Acer, and many smaller ones, to launch similar touchscreen gadgets. manufacturers, and the French Archos in August 2015 generally attached a photo of Lenovo Yoga to a press release about their own hybrid laptop.

Lenovo, Microsoft, HP, Dell and Intel launched the first ever large-scale collaborative advertising in 2015. With this campaign, they wanted to talk about the new capabilities of the devices - battery life, use as tablets and good speaker systems.

    Yoga 11

Lenovo launched its Yoga laptops in 2012, with Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 11 and 13. The first Yoga 11 was built on the Nvidia Tegra 3 1.3 GHz with an integrated graphics processor, had 2 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB SSDs - today this is more like the characteristics of an average smartphone or tablet. The device was running Windows RT, Microsoft Office 2013 was preinstalled on the laptop. The laptop was criticized for the OS, which did not run applications for earlier versions of Windows.

    Yoga 13

The 13-inch transformer Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 received a 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. This is already a more serious machine: the 3rd generation Intel Core processor i3 / i5 / i7, up to 8G of RAM, a 13.3-inch LG display with a resolution of 1600x900 pixels and SSD up to 256 GB, Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro operating system . If the IdeaPad Yoga 11S can be called a hybrid of a tablet and laptop, then Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro is already an “ultrabook”. Yoga 3 pro

In October 2014, I flew to London to present Lenovo new products to be the first to announce updates. One of the most anticipated gadgets at that time was the thinnest and lightest 13-inch ultrabook in the world - Yoga 3 Pro. It weighs only 1.17 kilograms, and a new swivel system allows you to deploy the laptop on the table so that it lies on it all the plane. From the experience of using both versions of the articulated systems - this one is better.

The main competitor of Yoga was considered the MacBook Air - and Yoga came out easier on one iPhone.

The device runs on Intel Core M-5Y70 with a frequency of 1.1 GHz, clocked up to 2.6 GHz. The display is 13.3 inches with a resolution of 3200x1800 pixels.

    Lenovo Yoga 900

In October 2015, at a presentation in San Francisco, Lenovo showed the Yoga 900 with Microsoft .
Yoga 900 is an updated version of Yoga 3 Pro. The manufacturer worked on problems with overheating of the laptop and increased the duration of work on a single battery charge. My version of the transformer received an Intel Core i7 Skylake 2.5 GHz processor, 16 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of SSD. There are versions with 512 GB SSDs, Core i5 processors and 8 GB of RAM on sale. In addition to two USB ports, the gadget received USB 3.0 and a card reader for SD, MMC, SDXC, SDHC.

The screen is a very colorful, 13.3-inch QHD + (3200x1800). This is one of the thinnest ultrabooks on Intel Core i - the case thickness is 14.9 mm. The gadget weighs 1.3 kg.

Operating time on a single charge - up to 10 hours.

The turning mechanism consists of 813 individual parts and is similar to a wristwatch bracelet. At the same time, the dirt for some reason does not clog into the gears.

For comparison, the expanded Yoga 11S and Yoga 900.

The thickness of the 11S with an 11.6-inch display is 17 mm, and the 13.3-inch Yoga 900 is 14.9 mm.

If on other Yoga in the upper left corner on the outside of the screen there was a Lenovo logo, then this time the company decided to highlight the line itself and put the YOGA logo in this place, and the Lenovo logo moved the lower right corner. Because YOGA is now positioned as an ultrabook premium segment. In Russia, its price in this configuration exceeds 120 thousand rubles.

Lenovo has been working with Dolby for a long time. The laptop received stereo speakers produced by JBL premium with support for Dolby Home Theater technology.

The keyboard is still the same AccuType, for me familiar and very comfortable.

On the right side of the ultrabook there is a power button, a hard reset, image rotation lock, a headphone jack and a USB port. On the left is the input for the charger, USB, microUSB and a card reader.

At the moment, this is the thinnest transformer laptop on the planet - its thickness is 12.8 mm, and it weighs 999 grams - a little heavier than my 13.3-inch Lenovo Tablet 2 Pro tablet , which my two-year-old daughter drags around with her on the apartment to watch cartoons on Youtube.
