IBM is going to make computers more human
The announcement picture is good, but in fact, IBM is not going to make robots that look like a person in appearance. This is a computer system, the principle of which is an imitation of the human brain. This step is perhaps the first of a series that will lead to the emergence of more efficient and human-friendly machines. Friendly - in the sense that working with such systems will be very simple.
Generally speaking, last year, IBM received many patents - more than any other company. Among all these patents, there are several that indicate the possibility of turning ordinary PCs into something more “human”. The first step in this direction was the development of a system that was created to help people suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
This system was developed by James Kozloski, an engineer and inventor of computational and applied neuroscience at IBM. According to him, the system allows people with Alzheimer's disease to recover lost fragments of memories. This patent is the first in a series of immediately a series of patents that “humanize” computers.
Among others, it is worth noting the patenting of a new processor that simulates the functioning of the human brain. This applies to decision-making during the processing of external information. The processor works more efficiently during peak loads when processing large amounts of data. At the same time, we are not talking about the creation of AI - such systems are only an imitation of artificial intelligence, no more.
Also, IBM patented the service., based on the abilities of the Watson cognitive system. It helps to determine whether any information is relevant and plausible. Plus, there is a system that can learn by communicating with a person. IBM has even patented a service that helps computers better understand and interpret human emotions.
One can imagine how the functions of a system designed to help patients with Alzheimer are combined with the functions of systems that can judge the credibility of information and evaluate human emotions. Immediately appears super brain, which is already thinking independently. But in fact, all this is just a model and imitation, they say at IBM. The company does not focus on something like a robot from Ex Machina.
“This is an extreme degree of the idea of human-computer interaction,” says James Kozloski. “Artificial intelligence is just a few things. The cognitive model will be improved when artificial intelligence is based on the brain model, but we are still far from that, ”he continues.
As regards the integration of existing IBM technologies, this is a rather promising direction, which can lead to the creation of significantly more efficient computer systems than those that are currently working. But the practical implementation of such an idea is still quite a long way off.
