Supplement 1 to the post “Traveling through Microelectronic Russia in 2015”: visit to the ELVIS Scientific and Practical Center
In my previous post “Traveling in Microelectronic Russia” there was a significant gap: I did not write about a visit to the ELVIS company in Zalenograd, one of the main hopes of the Russian development of electronics. This is due to the fact that I was not sure whether the Elvisites would react well to write anything about them. However, when they read my previous post, they asked, “Why aren’t we there?”, From which I realized that they did not mind. Total:
In the Museum of Computer History in Mountain View, California, there is such an exhibit: This is the on-board computer of the MIR space station, to which the Elvis had a hand, even when they were not ELVIS ( SPC ELVIS and ELVIS-NeoTek

), and the Soviet company "ELAS". The Elasovites developed electronics for the Salyut computer stations. Alexander Galitsky , now a venture capitalist,
played a significant role in transforming ELAS into ELVIS . I photographed Galitsky at the Ukrainian high-tech conference in San Francisco, where he stood with another venture capitalist, whose name was Andrey Kolodyuk: It was from contact with ELVIS in 2010 that modern cooperation began first with MIPS Technologies and then Imagination Technologies with Russian companies (True, for completeness, it is worth mentioning some ancient contacts of NIIIS and Silicon Graphics in the 1990s, as well as contacts of MIPS and the Russian company Modul in 2004). But in general, it all started from this day on July 4, 2011:

Five years later, there was a press release on a joint collaboration between ELVIS and Imagination Technologies, the company that designed the PoverVR GPU inside the Apple iPhone . Note the revolutionary fact that IP blocks are licensed in both directions:
So after the MIPSfpga seminar at MIET, I went to ELVIS, which is located from MIET in Zelenograd across the road. By the way, Elvis donated part of the FPGA boards for seminars (the other part was donated by Imagination Technologies and several donors including myself, as well as ITMO teachers).
Here's what the ELVIS office in Zelenograd looks like (shot on my phone): And here's a photo of the same office from an Elvis site: Inside I took a picture with the management: ELVIS General Director Yaroslav Petrichkovich Deputy General Director for Science and Technology Tatyana Solokhina Yuri Panchul (Imagination Technologies) VP Engineering ELVIS Vladimir Gusev

We talked about the current state of joint projects that you will hear about in the new year, as well as the need to improve education in Russia in the field of microchip design.
