The recently created Google Life Sciences division announced the first major mission to develop new ways to cure diabetes. The proof that the company's intentions are really serious can be a collaboration with the largest pharmaceutical company in France - Sanofi. This company is one of the first not only in France, but also in the world.

In principle, an indication that Google plans to do something more than conducting regular medical research can be considered the creation of Google Life Sciences already within the Alphabet holding. Over the past few months, the corporation has hired several renowned scientists, including immunologists, neurologists, and nanoparticle specialist engineers.

The fight against diabetes by Google is a logical step. For a long time, the corporation announced its intention to create smart contact lenses that can measure sugar levels, plus the company has signed an agreement with Dexcom, as part of the project to create a convenient and inexpensive glucometer.

Google is planning to shift priorities from “technical projects” in terms of diabetes control to “medical projects”. However, Life Sciences is still a technology company, not a medical or pharmaceutical company. According to company experts, sudden changes in blood sugar are very dangerous for patients, which can lead to heart disease, damage to the nervous system and even a stroke. With Sinofi, Google hopes to provide physicians and patients with more effective tools to prevent or track such changes.

“New technologies give doctors and patients an understanding of how the patient’s blood sugar levels change over a certain period of time or offer new ways to obtain real-time information on changes in blood sugar concentrations,” Google said in a statement.

Until such technologies enter the market for years, but one of the goals of cooperation with Sanofi is to accelerate the research and development process so that new advances in medicine can reach patients as quickly as possible. And Google Life Sciences does not plan to dwell on diabetes - in the future, this company will deal with other serious diseases, including problems of the cardiovascular system, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
