By brain waves, one can judge the effectiveness of teams and choose their leader

Examination of the brain using electroencephalograms showed that people involved in successful teams have brain waves synchronized. In addition, by the nature of the radiation, one can judge which of the team is a recognized leader. The study was conducted by specialists from Advanced Brain Monitoring. They published the results of the experiments at the conference NeuroGaming Conference 2015.

In the first part of the study, scientists observed groups of students solving problems together. The groups that worked best for the solution showed the greatest synchronization of brain waves. Different people had a similar activity in areas of the brain responsible for involvement in the process, attention and perception. Teams that did not succeed showed a strong wave out of sync.

The second part of the study, conducted earlier than the first, included monitoring students studying for an MBA. In the groups that studied similar problems, different members of the groups took turns taking the floor. Observing the brain activity of all members of the group, it was possible to immediately recognize the natural leaders in the groups - as soon as this person started talking, the signals from the EEG of the other members of the group showed a clear increase in involvement in the process and increased attention.

Such studies can greatly help in the selection of teams that work well with each other - whether it be teams in submarines, ships, groups of researchers in the Arctic or astronauts sent to colonize other planets. One can imagine how convenient it will be to select close-knit teams not according to conflicting psychological tests, but according to the picture of brain activity while they are solving various problems.

EEG and the study of brain waves has been going on since the mid-19th century. Recently, with the development of computer systems, attempts have been made to use these waves to control external devices .
