3D-models of cities: Chisinau and St. Petersburg

Architects began to make a 3D copy of the whole Chisinau . They are designing a model of the city not for entertainment (although not without it, probably), but in order to more conveniently plan new architectural solutions. For example, someone had a thought, but what if instead of this building to build a skyscraper? No problem, we print a model of a skyscraper - and instead of one house on the map we put another house. Admire, appreciate.

Sitting in a chair, the architect can now plan the restructuring of an entire district of the city, swapping houses and rearranging them, like figures on a chessboard.

This is not only convenient, but also gives a more accurate picture in the future than rendering to computers, as is usually done. There is a problem with the renderings: sometimes the house looks beautiful in the picture, but in reality it turns out something completely different from what was expected.

Chisinau is a relatively small city, so you can make a copy without any problems. In finished form, the installation will take only 400 m 2 .

By the way, 3D models of individual sections of the city have another practical value: they can be installed in the city under a hood and with LED lighting as a guide for tourists.

That's what they are going to do in the Moldovan capital.

By the way, the idea to print an entire city on a 3D printer came to students of the faculty of urban planning and architectureTechnical University of Moldova after reporting a similar project in St. Petersburg . They made a gigantic model of the city of the 18th century: 1000 buildings on a scale of 1:87, 305 meters of roads, 25 thousand unique characters walk around the city, work in workshops or in the surrounding fields. According to a rough estimate, the cost of the St. Petersburg project amounted to about $ 5 million.

The area of the small town is 1500 m 2 . The model also uses 20 tons of water, which circulates in place of the river and the sea.
