Google Launches Its Internet of Things Platform This Month

The search giant announced that the release of the platform for the Internet of things will take place in May. Developers around the world will have access to the SDK and the hardware part, which seamlessly integrates with devices.

First, the platform will be aimed at automating the kitchen, connecting refrigerators, dishwashers and other household appliances with each other and with the user's smartphone. There is no more detailed information on how this will work.

The platform from the information giant will give her a huge boost in the field of the Internet of things and smart homes, as well as make it possible to catch up with Apple, who make their way to this arena with their HomeKit , launched for developers that year.

In January of the previous year, Google acquired Nest Labs., a company that has developed and launched self-learning and programmable thermostats and smoke detectors with touch controls and Wi-Fi. It was a $ 3.2 billion deal.

In this segment, Google is competing not only with Apple, but also with other companies, such as Vodafone or Samsung , which are paving their way to smart homes. Last year, Vodafone acquired Cobra Automative Technologies for their M2M communications technology.

Samsung, in turn, launched a smart home platform that controls smart devices, including refrigerators, dishwashers, and even wearable devices like the Galaxy Gear, through a single application. The Taiwanese company MediaTek launched LinkIT - one platform that allows users to connect devices and wearable equipment. We are launching our solution for this market, the Bongo project , at iRidium mobile. We will tell you more soon.

According to research company Gartner, in 2015, 1.1 billion items of the Internet of things will work around the world, and by 2020 their number will reach 9.7 billion.

At the moment, Google offers solutions for the Internet of things through the Google Cloud Platform, but this is only part of the Cloud Platform - hosting, storage, engines, and a whole bunch of tasty and healthy buns. Everything that is currently known about Google’s developments for the Internet of things can be found on the official Google Solutions for IoT page .
