NASA introduced a video of the passage of the probe Dawn over Ceres

NASA created and posted on the Web a colorful animation of the passage of the Dawn probe over the planetoid Ceres. The animation is composed of a series of high-resolution photos taken by the device earlier. In this case, the video is color, Ceres is shown here after appropriate processing in a graphical editor. Reinforced surface colors make it possible to distinguish heterogeneous composition, various materials. Scientists believe that the regions painted in blue are newer, there are a large number of cracks, holes and other elements.

The video shows large craters, including Occator, and the conical mountain Ahuna Mons. Let me remind you that the objects on the surface of Ceres were named after mythical creatures related to agriculture, as well as the corresponding holidays.

The photos from which the animation sequence was composed were obtained by a probe at an altitude of 1,450 kilometers from the surface of Ceres, from August to October 2015.

“The flight simulation shows the craters of various shapes that were encountered at Ceres. The observer can see the sheer walls of the Occator, Dantu, and Yalode craters.

The mission of the Dawn probe - while the first and only of its kind, this project allowed us to study the largest object in the asteroid belt. Before flying to Ceres, the probe studied the asteroid Vesta, from 2011 to 2012. Now the spacecraft is in its lowest orbit - 385 kilometers above the surface of Ceres.
