Scarlett Johansson will star in the film version of “The Ghost in the Shell”

Recently demanded actress Scarlett Johansson signed a contract for the film adaptation of the famous anime “Ghost in the Shell”. It is reported by The Verge. The film will be shot by DreamWorks, which is now led by Stephen Spielberg. Spielberg admitted that he was a fan of the work and had long wanted to make a film based on his motives. As expected, the British film director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Hunter) will lead the production of the film. The script will be written by William Wheeler. The release date of the film has not yet been specified.

The 1995 anime is a film adaptation of the eponymous manga published in 1991. Its plot takes us to a world close to cyberpunk. By 2029, thanks to ubiquitous computer networks and cyber technology, almost all people have implanted a variety of neural implants. But cyber technology also brought a new danger to humans: the so-called “brain breaking” and a number of other crimes directly related to them became possible.

The long-wanted hacker, nicknamed the Puppeteer, begins to intervene in politics, and then the "9th Division" of the Public Security Bureau, a police detachment equipped with the latest technology, is ordered to investigate this case and stop the Puppeteer. In pursuit of him, the question arises: what makes a person human and who is the Puppeteer in this world, where the border between man and machine is almost invisible?

Hollywood rarely managed action films with women starring, but Johansson has proven herself by playing in such blockbusters as “Lucy”, “Stay in my shoes”, “Avengers”. Let's hope that DreamWorks succeeds not to spoil the story and adequately convey the unique visual series of the original anime with movie methods.
