    Rider 2017.1 - cross-platform .NET development environment

    What kind of Rider?

    Rider is an IDE for .NET development that can be used on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Rider is suitable for many types of .NET applications, including ASP.NET, .NET Core, .NET Framework, Xamarin, and Unity.

    Rider combines the capabilities of ReSharper in terms of .NET code analysis with the functionality of the IntelliJ platform . For example, in Rider, most WebStorm features are available for front-end development and DataGrip for writing SQL and working with databases. We hope you enjoy the Rider, especially if you have experience working with ReSharper in Visual Studio or using the JetBrains IDE: IntelliJ IDEA, PhpStorm, PyCharm, CLion and others.

    Among the languageswhich are supported in Rider are C #, VB.NET, F #, Razor syntax in ASP.NET, JavaScript, TypeScript, XAML, HTML, CSS, SCSS, LESS, JSON and SQL. Rider’s

    functionality is impressive: more than 2000 code inspections, about 500 refactoring and automatic transformations, direct and contextual code navigation, unit testing, debugger, work with version control systems and much more.

    What license is needed?

    Rider uses the standard licensing model for JetBrains: we offer monthly and annual subscriptions for companies and individual developers. With continuous updating of subscriptions, you can save up to 40%.

    Rider can be purchased separately, but it is also part of two broader licenses:

    • All Products pack : if you already have a license for a set of our individual products, use Rider, paying nothing;
    • ReSharper Ultimate + Rider : this is a new type of subscription that allows you to get Rider, keep access to our other .NET tools (ReSharper, dotTrace, dotMemory, dotCover, ReSharper C ++) and save money by avoiding the switch to All Products pack.

    Some categories of Rider clients are provided free of charge: these are Microsoft MVP, ASP.NET Insiders, students, teachers, and non-profit OS projects.

    Finally, Rider, like all other JetBrains products, has a 50% discount for startups.

    What will happen next?

    The Rider team expects to release at least two more releases before the end of the year: the imminent bugfix 2017.1.1 in August and the full release 2017.2 in the fall. We intend to work on popular requests, including support for MSTest and .NET Core 2.0, and in parallel we will monitor developments in support and the tracker in order to understand what else needs to be improved in the first place.

    We suggest you download Rider for Windows, macOS or Linux and try it in action. Keep in mind that if you installed Rider 2017.1 RC or one of the following pre-release builds, you may have to manually reset the trial period.
