HolyJS 2017 Piter Announcement: More JavaScript, Good, and More

    On June 2-3, the JavaScript-conference HolyJS 2017 Piter will be held - this is the third HolyJS in a row. For the year of its existence, the conference has shown steep growth, and now it is gathering for 600 developers - after all, the only pure-JavaScript conference in Russia.

    Yes, this time the conference will be held within two days. Why? We have already been exposed on Twitter:

    But seriously, the last time the participants often complained about too high a load by the end of the day, now due to the two-day format and reports, it will become more and easier to perceive. The program will include not only the best speakers of the past HolyJS, but also new faces (and even Douglas Crockford !)

    Details under the cut.

    Let’s say right away that there will be no omissions: there will not be 2 times more reports, but due to the two-day format in three streams, you can visit more reports (most likely, 14 in two days instead of 8 in one). The reports will be a little longer - 60 minutes per slot, and it will be possible to torture the speakers with personal and not very questions in the discussion zones twice as long. Finally, it will be possible to take a banal pause, if at some point you feel that your brain begins to slowly flow out of your ears.

    Best news ... Douglas Crockford is coming to us!

    Surely you know who Douglas Crockford is: one of the "fathers" of JavaScript, the creator of JSON, the author of many tools (like JSLint and JSMin), as well as one of the rare people who found good points in JS . Agree, to personally meet and torment with questions of such a "bison" - is worth a lot.

    At HolyJS 2017 Piter, you can listen to two reports from Douglas:

    - The Post JavaScript Apocalypse : What will happen after JavaScript? What language will replace him? In this report, along with Douglas, students will be able to look at the features of ES6 and find out what will happen to the language in the future. It will be about the quality of the code, language and its simplicity, as well as the congestion and clumsiness of the Internet in the form in which it exists now.

    -Typing, Goto There and Back Again : Progress does not stand still, however, it goes not only forward, then deviating to the side, then taking a couple of steps back. JavaScript is a great example: being a super-popular and super-hateful language, it simultaneously tries to change and is stony from its own success. In this report, we will pause and see where the legs grow from some controversial language design decisions.

    Of course, besides Douglas, the conference will feature the best speakers of the past HolyJS: Martin Splitt, Mathias Buus Madsen, Denis Mishunov, Roman Dvornov, and many new faces. The first reports are already published, and you can watch them on the conference website .

    New Program Committee

    Another important thing that cannot be ignored is the new composition of the Conference Program Committee. This time, the PC is represented not only by the St. Petersburg JS-community, but by colleagues from all over the country, as well as independent developers:

    • Roman Dvornov - Community MoscowJS;
    • Eugene Pshenichny and Victor Suzdalev - Code Hipsters from Rostov;
    • Mikhail Poluboyarinov - PiterJS Community;
    • Denis Mishunov - Digital Garden AS, author of articles in Smashing Magazine;
    • Evgeny Gusev - Wrike;
    • Anton Voskobovich.

    We worked with feedback from the participants and this time we will look at the hardcore and practical applicability of the reports, and not at the number of hype around the topic.

    Call for papers

    If you want to talk about something hardcore and the new Russian JavaScript community - give us a report !

    If you have already performed somewhere and received a warm welcome from the organizers and the audience, show us the video report - this will significantly speed up the decision by the program committee and increase your chances of speaking. Class performances in the past are one of the important criteria that our program committee has traditionally guided by.

    Beginners should not be afraid either - we will definitely talk to everyone. Moreover, if your topic is fresh and interesting, we will do our best to hone the content of the report, presentation technique, timings and presentation, in general, to prepare the perfect report with you, for this we even got a special section in the blog.

    As usual, program updates can be monitored on the conference website, where you can also follow the list of confirmed speakers .

    PPS If you suddenly wanted to register after reading the post, we have a special price for the first hundred tickets , which will increase with the number of tickets purchased. And for those who are far from St. Petersburg, there is an online broadcast.
