Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia (FAS) fined the social network Vkontakte for violating Russian law. We are talking about the distribution of information products by a social network without specifying its age category, writes Lenta. The decision on the fine was made after considering a complaint by a user of a social network who drew the attention of the department to the fact that an advertisement for poker applications and a famous musical was placed without specifying the age category.

According to the FAS representatives, “like any other advertisement, advertising on VKontakte must comply with the requirements of the law.” “Social networks are not an exception to the rule, and in view of the large number of users, they are also under close attention from citizens,” said Irina Gudkova, deputy head of the Moscow OFAS Russia.

As for the Law “On Advertising”, it does not allow the placement of advertisements of a certain kind subject to qualifications in accordance with the requirements of the federal law “On the Protection of Children from Information Harmful to Their Health and Development,” without indicating a category.
