Yandex: 72.3 million people use the Internet in Russia

    Yandex published a study, “Internet Development in Russian Regions,” which showed an increase in the Internet audience and its comparison with other countries, the penetration of mobile Internet and other development indicators, including Internet commerce.

    The audience growth rate remained at the level of 2013. At least once a month in 2014, 72.3 million adult Russians went online, and 60 million people used the Internet daily. In 2014, about six million new users appeared. The most active Internet users in Russia are people under 35, but at the same time, the proportion of the older age group continues to grow. Older Internet users are more numerous in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other large cities.

    Penetration in Moscow and St. Petersburg is slightly less than 80%, while in villages this figure for 2014 was 50%.

    In 2014, 68% of users accessed the network at least once a month using a tablet or smartphone, this figure in 2013 was 56%. Most mobile users are in the North Caucasus and the Far East: researchers noted that this may be due to the fact that in these regions mobile devices are the only way to access the Internet. The most popular devices are gadgets on Android, their share continues to grow. Over the year, the share of devices in Java, Symbian and Bada decreased by two-thirds.

    The number of online customers has increased in all regions of Russia. Every second user in 2014 at least once made a purchase in online stores abroad , the most popular Chinese stores.
