AOL buys Huffington Post for $ 315 million

    AOL acquired the Huffington Post, launched in 2005 with a meager million dollar investment and grown into one of the most visited US news sites.

    As part of the deal, Huffington Post co-founder and chief editor Arianna Huffington will be appointed president and chief editor of the Huffington Post Media Group, which will bring together all of the Huffington Post and AOL content, including Engadget, TechCrunch and many other projects.

    According  to the New York Times , AOL will pay $ 315 million. This will be the largest acquisition of the company since it was separated from Time Warner in 2009.

    The press release states that the total audience of the new conglomerate will be 117 million unique visitors per month in the United States and 270 million worldwide.
