Russian Hewlett-Packard Search Related to 2003 Bribes

The Wall Street Journal found out the reasons for the search, which was conducted yesterday at the main office of the Hewlett-Packard company at 16a Leningradskoye Shosse, Moscow 3.

According to HP management, the company’s search “was connected with the investigation of the case almost seven years ago, in which mainly involved employees no longer working with HP. "

The German prosecutor's office reported more detailed information: this is a case of bribing the HP management in the amount of € 8 million to sign a contract worth € 35 million for the supply of laptops, servers and workstations to law enforcement agencies in the Russian Federation (apparently, the Russian prosecutor’s office). The contract is dated August 1, 2003.

Giving bribes to foreign officials is prohibited by a separate US law (Foreign Corrupt Practice Act), even if it is considered normal and almost legal within the country where the American company operates.
