TOP 5 reports from the Mobius 2015 Mobile Development Conference

Last year in St. Petersburg we held Mobius 2015 - a conference for experienced developers for mobile platforms. The conference brought together about 250 developers, of whom about 150 write for Android, 120 for iOS, and about 100 for other platforms (how do you like this arithmetic?).

The event is truly unique, yet hardcore mobile conferences in Russia can be counted on the fingers of one joiner's hand. And in Mobius, the key features were and remain reports .

Videos of all conference reports are on Youtube. And we, as always, collected statistics from the feedback of participants and calculated the ratings. In this post - a traditional review of the best conference reports. I will do a short review of the five best performances so that you know a little more about them and see exactly what you need.

    So let's go.

Andrey Belenko - What is worth and what should not be done to protect data from iOS applications.
    Average rating: 4.35

In fifth place, we have a report on iOS security: an overview of the platform’s capabilities, ways to bypass them and specific data protection tools. In addition to this, Andrey talks about security holes in existing applications using lively and vivid examples.

    What exactly?
    • For example, how to prevent unsafe data storage when working with the network (namely, to wean the application from writing the history of your URL requests to internal memory).
    • Or what errors in the application code lead to keychain vulnerabilities in backups (which break once)?
    • Or why you should not trust the storage system of all iOS applications? These are just a couple of examples.

As a result, Andrey offers 3 important "NOT" mobile security.
    What kind? See for yourself.

This year, Andrew will also speak at Mobius on security. The exact topic is being approved.

Alexey Zinoviev - Android Geo Apps: In Soviet Russia, latitude and longitude are looking for YOU!
    Average rating: 4.4 The

fourth place is taken by Alexei Zinoviev's visual report on the capabilities, technologies and APIs of map services in Android: from well-known GoogleMaps and Yandex.Maps to OsmDroid, MapQuest and MapBox.

It would seem that all this can be google, see and compare yourself. However, the true value of the report appears in the presentation, along with a bunch of links to examples and source codes for the implementation of real applications with screwed geoservices, which you can gut and apply in your work if you wish.

However, we do not recommend confining ourselves to one presentation only, because Alexey’s report is 50 minutes of not only useful, but also a lively performance. However, see for yourself!

Vladimir Ivanov - Mobile Threats: Defend!
    Average rating: 4.41 The

best Mobius 2015 report on the security of mobile applications from the Kaspersky Lab speaker (he worked there at the time of his speech) begins with a general overview of the types of malware and how they work, then goes on to ways to protect mobile applications at the source code level.

No boring theory, all this is described with examples and in code: analysis of the security level of Wi-Fi points; incoming SMS control; data encryption; click interception and other malware tools.

Now Vladimir is working in Apollofon and on June 4 in St. Petersburg he will give a report on the philosophy and practice of using material design.

Matvey Malkov - Jet engine for your Android application.
    Average rating: 4.46

Despite the fact that the report is essentially an introduction to reactive programming, you will find a lot of code and hardcore in the video. Probably, it allowed him to gain wide recognition among the conference participants.

Yes, only the lazy one did not talk about reactive programming - however, do not rush to shrug your shoulders, the feature of the report is in a ton of live practical examples: cases, diagrams, visualization of tasks, and a bunch of other goodies. Starting with an overview of the features of the operators and syntax, we come to RxJava for the hundredth (!) Slide, delving into the already interesting Senior-am features with detailed code analysis: debounce, cache, reduce, distinct, etc - and this is on a good hundred slides.

Closer to completion, concurrency awaits you, anda cherry on the cake with a fly in the ointment becomes an overview of the flaws of the reagent, namely: memory zooms, difficult debugging, the complexity of the application logic and the absence of cool reactive teams.

This year, for Mobius 2016, Matvey is preparing two new reports: something new about RxJava and about Scala on Android.

PS But at the end of the video there is still that same cherry, which one? Video right here, watch:

Mikhail Samarin - Development of mobile applications for global brands.
    Average rating: 4.49

Well, here we come to the best report of last year. Mikhail's speeches always attract a large audience: an excellent speaker, an enviable background and an outlook that is unusual for a technical report - all this stably ensures high ratings for the reports. Yes, they usually don’t have hardcore, and Mikhail’s performance at Mobius 2015 is a set of practical recommendations and tips for the developer.

What specifically will be discussed? At a minimum, about developing a dozen mobile applications with a detailed overview of pitfalls and lessons learned. Please note that this is not so much about the managerial integration of applications in working with large customers, but rather about the analysis of the technical aspects of their development: from choosing a framework and building an application architecture to UI / UX chips and other goodies.

It’s worth it for everyone and everyone, because such a review gives the developer the opportunity to look at their work from a bird's eye view from the point of view of the customer, sponsor or brand owner.

PS And finally, if you didn’t have enough, we bring to your attention a report in the nomination “Audience Award”, a peppy performance by Anton Keks with demos and a rating of 4.26: “Chromecast, or why is this the best way to spend 30 €”. At the same time, you will learn the etymology of H2G2-42.

This year, Mobius will be held on Saturday, June 5, as part of a kind of IT forum consisting of three industry-specific IT conferences ( Mobius , DotNext , HolyJS ). This year's program has already confirmed 16 reports out of 21. Interesting? Then study the announcements of reports on the conference website .
