# Media Player Classic Home Cinema 2.6.4: Key Updates and Fixes

On March 19, 2026, version 2.6.4 of the open-source media player Media Player Classic — Home Cinema (MPC-HC) was released. The project is written in C++ and C, with source code available on GitHub under the GNU GPL v3.0 license. MPC-HC continues development of the original Guliverkli, adding features and bug fixes. The player supports all popular video and audio formats and uses DXVA for hardware decoding on GPU.

The interface is minimalist, just like the classic Media Player Classic. DVD support (physical discs and ISO) includes menus, chapters, and subtitles. Additional features: dark theme, thumbnail previews in the file manager, playback speed adjustment, video transformations (rotate, mirror, stretch, scale), HDR via madVR or MPC Video Renderer. Automatic/manual subtitle search.

Changes in Version 2.6.4

The update focuses on stability and usability. Comparison with 2.6.3:

  • Fixed detected bugs and errors;
  • LAV Filters updated to 0.81-7-g8c4ee;
  • Added hotkey for "Override All Styles";
  • Added a final node in the settings tree for all pages (improves navigation);
  • Minor fixes and optimizations.

Developers noted an issue with OpenSubtitles: error 406 due to exceeding the daily quota. Solution — register an account in settings: Options → Subtitles → Miscellaneous → Right-click on OpenSubtitles.com → Settings → login/password. This bypasses the limit.

Technical Features of MPC-HC

MPC-HC is focused on performance. DXVA offloads the CPU by handing decoding to the GPU (NVIDIA/AMD/Intel). HDR requires an external renderer: madVR (with high-quality upscaling) or the built-in MPC Video Renderer.

Subtitle settings are flexible: auto-download, caching, styling (override ASS/SSA). Version 2.6.4 improves the options structure — the tree now clearly reflects pages, simplifying configuration for mid-level/senior devs integrating the player into projects.

LAV Filters 0.81-7 provide lag-free decoding of HEVC, AV1, VP9 on modern hardware. Testing shows stable 4K@60fps playback with subtitles on RTX 30xx.

What Matters

  • LAV Filters update to 0.81-7-g8c4ee improves compatibility with new codecs;
  • Hotkey for subtitle styles speeds up tweaking;
  • Explicit settings structure eliminates navigation confusion;
  • Bypassing OpenSubtitles quota via account is essential for heavy use;
  • DXVA + madVR — optimal stack for HDR/4K without FPS drops.
