History of Audio-Technica

    Hello, Habr!

I propose again to plunge into the history of one brand, as we did with Nintendo , Westone and Samsung . This time it will be about one of the best manufacturers of headphones, microphones and other audio equipment in the world - about Audio-Technica, founded in 1962.

Hideo Matsushita founded the company at the age of 42.

    Pickups and Turntables

In 1962, Hideo Matsushita in Shinjuku, a special area of Tokyo, the administrative center of this city, founded the company Audio-Tehcnica. The first product was sound pickups for phonograph records, and the first market was other factories for the production of sound equipment.

The first two models, AT-1 and AT-3, began selling to manufacturers of audio equipment in Japan. The high quality of the pickups has led to the fact that a year later the company moves to a more spacious room and increases production. Then sales of the AT-5 began. As a result, in 1969 the company entered the world market with its pickups.

In 1986, the company launched the AT33ML / OCC Pickup, which was the first PCOCC pickup. A landmark event in the world of audio.

Also in the eighties, the company was very successful at selling the Mister Disc portable turntable and audio cassette player, which was later replaced by Sound Burger. It looks very original.

    Microphones

The company began selling microphones only in 1978, 16 years after its foundation. The first was the AT-800 series.

Surprisingly, I did not find the cover image of this brochure of better quality.

In 1981, Audio-Technica decided to make such an offer for professional musicians: a whole “Microphone Wardrobe”. Here is such a multi-colored set. It seems to have turned out so-so. The kit includes seven ATM-41 microphones.

In 1985, the company began production of the UniPoint line of ultra-compact microphones.

    image

Released in 1991, the AT4033 was sold for more than $ 1,000. The company broke the bar - in the sense that the analogs of this microphone cost less.

In 1994, the AT4050 / CM5 condenser microphone was introduced to the world. The special technology used in the manufacture of membranes ensures the stability of the microphone. Its purpose is to record acoustic guitar, combo, female vocals and so on.

Higher class microphones appeared a little later. These were the professional models AT4060 and AT895.

Audio-technica AT4060 condenser tube microphone is designed for highly professional recording studios. Lamps are selected manually and tested individually.

In 2007, the company introduced the AT2010 microphone, and also patented SpectraPulse technology.

Wireless microphones built using SpectraPulse technology. This technology is used in cases where the operating range is not as important as data security and usability. For example, in courtrooms and courts.

    Sport and music

The 1996 Summer Olympics were held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Russia ranked second in the overall standings with 26 gold, 21 silver and 16 bronze medals. Of the athletes, Alexei Nemov showed himself better, taking six medals at once, of which two were gold, one silver and three bronze.

At the 1996 Olympics, all the microphones and headphones that were used for broadcasts and for conducting were produced by Audio-Technica. The procession of the company in the world of sports did not end there: they supplied the same equipment for the Sydney Olympics in 2000, to Salt Lake City in 2002. At the next Olympics, Athens Olympic Broadcasting SA used Audio-Technica microphones. And in Beijing it was the same.

Many musicians used Audio-Technica microphones for their shows. In 1990, for example, the positive reviews of Gloria Estefan received the ATW-1032 wireless microphone.

For the first time Audio-Technica "got" at the Grammy Awards in 2006. The company has equipped the event with more than two hundred microphones. Until 2013, nothing has changed. Where else are Audio-Technica microphones used? In the meeting rooms of the US Congress, at the debate, in the New York Police. And of course, some musicians prefer microphones of this company: for example, Metallica and Slipknot.

    Headphones

The company launched its first series of headphones by 1974. It was a line of dynamic headphones AT-700.
