Nokia MD-12: a Bluetooth speaker that turns any surface into an audio system
Friday, Habr!
At the Nokia MORE event, held as part of the Microsoft BUILD 2014 conference earlier this month, we showed not only the new generation of Nokia Lumia smartphones and the Nokia Cyan update with Windows Phone 8.1, but also one interesting accessory - the Nokia MD-12 portable Bluetooth speaker.

This device is notable for the fact that it was the first vibro-acoustic audio system in the Nokia line of accessories.
For details, welcome to cat.
Let's start with the key advantage of the new product: with a weight of only 180 grams (which is slightly less than an apple), the Nokia MD-12 has a high-quality and powerful sound that runs counter to its compactness and appearance.
The secret of Nokia’s mobile audio system is its built-in vibration converter located on the bottom surface of the device. For those who are faced with this kind of acoustics, we will explain for the first time: vibroacoustics amplifies low frequencies due to the effect on the surface (especially on the solid) on which it is installed. In the case of the Nokia MD-12, a surprisingly wide range of bass frequencies is reproduced, which are not characteristic of such a compact speaker. The maximum output power of the speaker is - 9589 dB.

The Nokia MD-12 is designed in the spirit of the portable speaker JBL PlayUp, one of the company's best-selling portable accessories. Nokia MD-12 boasts a bright puck-shaped case made of two-layer plastic of orange, green, yellow or white. The speaker, as in the prototype models, is directed upward, providing sound propagation in all directions. The dimensions of the column are 38x84 mm (height x diameter).

The built-in 1020 mAh Li-Ion battery provides up to 15 hours of battery life, which is quite a worthy indicator for portable speakers. The device is charged via a standard micro-USB connector. You can be sure that the charge is enough, for example, to throw a small party in the open air. The MD-12 speaker can also act as a speakerphone.

You can connect Nokia Lumia or any other smartphone with NFC to Nokia MD-12 simply by touching the speaker with the back of the case. However, NFC is used only for “pairing” devices, and sound will be transmitted via Bluetooth 3.0 + HS. The radius of the column is 10 meters. You can also connect to the device in the traditional way through Bluetooth authentication, and if the phone does not support wireless technologies, it remains possible to use the audio jack and 3.5 mm cable that comes with the kit.

Unlike older models, the entire MD-12 control was reduced to a single button located on the end of the device, as well as to the special Nokia Device Hub application, thanks to which the user can not only control not only this speaker, but also other connected accessories.

The application shares recommendations for use. The application can give recommendations on the use of a Nokia accessory by additional Nokia devices and can even tell where they were used for the last time, if suddenly the user cannot find any of the accessories.

The declared cost of the device in Europe is 39 euros. Information on the announcement and cost of Nokia MD-12 in the Russian market will appear in the near future.
