Results of CES 2014: new Samsung cameras
Good afternoon, Habr!
Today, as part of a series of posts following the results of the international consumer electronics exhibition CES 2014, we will talk more about the new digital cameras presented by Samsung, of which there are as many as seven.
And we will start with the flagship of this year - the latest generation digital camera Samsung NX30. Improved 20.3MP APS-C CMOS sensor, NX AF System II for faster and more accurate autofocus, 1/8000 shutter speed and Continuous Shooting (up to 9 frames per second) - these are the features that highlight the new camera .
The tilted electronic viewfinder (XGA, 2.359K resolution) with the ability to rotate 80 degrees makes it easier to find new shooting angles and perspectives, even if the subject itself is blocking something. The 3-inch AMOLED touch screen, which rotates horizontally 180 degrees and vertically 270, helps you take pictures from anywhere, and if you want, create self-portraits.
Samsung NX30 represents a new stage in the development of Smart-cameras company. It supports NFC and Wi-Fi protocols, and there are a number of features to transfer footage to mobile devices. Tag & Go allows you to instantly transfer pictures to any NFC-enabled smartphone or tablet, the Photo Beam function is capable of sending both pictures and video - just bring the camera to the device, MobileLink can transfer several pictures at once (up to 4 at the same time) to any Smart devices, and the AutoShare function completely automatically backs up photos on the user's smartphone or tablet. The remote viewfinder Remote Viewfinder Pro makes it possible to use a mobile device to control the camera: indicators such as shutter speed and aperture can be set manually remotely.
The next-generation DRIMeIV Image Processor and powerful DSP chip provide Full HD / 60p photo and video quality. The high light sensitivity of the ISO 100-25600 camera allows you to get decent pictures in low light conditions, and the OIS Duo image stabilization technology allows you to capture clear shots of objects in motion. Thanks to the OLED Color function, the photos boast good contrast.
The popular Dropbox cloud storage service (for Russia) is preinstalled on the NX30 - this is the first camera on the market with the ability to send pictures directly to Dropbox. By the way, for a number of other countries, direct delivery of photos to the Flickr service will be available.
Not without support for the new-fangled shooting of 3D photos and videos: the camera can do this in conjunction with the Samsung 45mm F1.8 2D / 3D lens. You can play the resulting “volumetric” content on compatible 3D devices (for example, Samsung’s 3D TVs and monitors).
The capabilities of the Samsung NX30 make it a good solution for operators who need a compact but powerful camera. In addition to being able to record in Full HD quality with stereo sound, the model is equipped with a standard 3.5 mm microphone input. The level of the recorded sound is displayed on the camera screen, so that the user can track the parameters directly during shooting. In addition, they can also be set manually to achieve optimum soundtrack quality. Thanks to the HDMI Live Streaming function with Full HD / 30p output, the camera can be connected to a display, recorder or other devices that support the HDMI interface.
Intuitive operation is one of the main features of the Samsung NX30. Two custom Modes Custom Modes are selected using the mode dial; moreover, the user can create 10 more custom presets that are saved in the camera’s memory. The switching wheel also provides access to the most commonly used modes, such as continuous shooting, bracketing, and a self-portrait timer.
Samsung i-Function gives you instant access to settings such as shutter speed and aperture. And the new i-Function Plus system allows experienced photographers to reprogram the control keys.
Specifications NX30:
Along with the NX30 camera, a set of lenses will be on sale.
Samsung's new 16-50mm F2.0-2.8 S ED OIS lens is the first premium S-series lens. It is characterized by high aperture (F2.0 for 16 mm; F2.8 for 50 mm) - it is the fastest lens with 3x zoom among devices of this class. The lenses are protected against moisture and dust.
The lens is equipped with an ultra-precise Ultra-Precise Stepping Motor (UPSM). It provides three times higher focus control accuracy. This lens has an optical stabilization system, three aspherical lenses (ASP), two low dispersion lenses (ED) and two eXreme High Refractive (XHR) lenses. ASP lenses eliminate spherical aberration, ED significantly reduce chromatic aberration, and XHR made the lens light and compact.
Specifications NX 16-50mm F2.0-2.8 S ED OIS:
The new 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 Power Zoom ED OIS is designed for everyday use by photographers who travel frequently and need a compact but powerful tool. It is incredibly light (only 111 grams) and is available in two colors: black and white. The lens has a wide viewing angle, is equipped with silent Silent Auto Focusing autofocus and a very quiet zoom.
The main feature of this lens is its quick control, which is carried out using an electric motor with a swing type button. This feature makes it possible to control the zoom with the ease inherent in compact cameras. Smooth zoom is useful not only for photography, but also helps in the video process. Intuitive controls, i-Function, UPSM and optical stabilization system - all these functions are in this lens.
Specifications NX 16-50 mm F3.5-5.6 Power Zoom ED OIS:
A new external TTL flash with a guide number of 58 will also be on sale. A high sync speed allows the flash to be used at shutter speeds above 1/200. In addition, the flash is synchronized wirelessly, which allows you to use it as a remote and get natural shots in any lighting conditions.
Another highlight of the exhibition was Samsung GALAXY Camera 2, which replaced the previous GALAXY Camera model, which won many prestigious awards last year. Among its advantages are a quad-core 1.6 GHz processor, Android 4.3, a 2000 mAh battery, as well as an intuitive interface and extremely simple navigation.
GALAXY Camera 2 surpasses the camera of any smartphone due to its 21x optical zoom and 16MP BSI CMOS sensor. It has a 4.8-inch HD Super Clear Touch LCD screen. The quad-core 1.6 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM have a positive effect on the speed of the camera.
Like its predecessor, GALAXY Camera 2 is an ideal device for amateur photographers who prefer to take pictures, immediately edit and send the received pictures to social networks. You can share your photos using functions based on Wi-Fi and NFC protocols: the same Tag & Go, Photo Beam, AutoShare and Mobile Link, which are in the flagship NX30. Not without the remote viewfinder Remote Viewfinder, thanks to which you can control the camera from the screen of your smartphone. A nice bonus to GALAXY Camera 2 will be 50 GB of space on the Dropbox cloud storage service, available to the user for a period of 2 years.
The Smart Mode function allows users to select one of 28 preset shooting modes. If it is difficult for a novice photographer to decide on a mode, the Smart Mode Suggest function will come to his aid, which will help to choose the optimal mode. It analyzes the shooting conditions, including illumination and the location of objects in the frame, and recommends the most suitable mode. For video, there are also useful functions, such as Multi Motion Video, with which you can create slow-motion or accelerated video up to 8 times.
Specifications GALAXY Camera 2:
At the exhibition, another flagship model of the WB series with 60x optical zoom was presented - Samsung WB2200F. This camera provides high performance and image quality with long battery life.
The WB2200F also features advanced NFC and Wi-Fi capabilities: Tag & Go, Photo Beam, AutoShare, and MobileLink. There is also a remote viewfinder Remote View Finder.
