Open Interface Micro-Conference UX-Wednesday №18

On September 25, the eighteenth open micro-conference UX-Wednesday was held in the new office of Mail.Ru. During the day, interface design and design specialists from various departments of the company, as well as invited guests made a series of presentations about their work experience and participated in its discussion. This time we had Stepan Frolov (Pravoobladateli.ru), Maria Vasilyeva and Katya Kaminskaya (UI Design), Katerina Umnova and Ivo Dimitrov (InGenius Systems / UI Modeling Company).

The first speaker was Stepan Frolov ( Pravoobladateli.ru) - He answered the most common legal questions regarding design. Firstly, about contractual relationships and copyrights. Secondly, the use of purchased images and other works of third parties. Thirdly, about working with fonts with a regular and web license. Unfortunately, the video recording of the presentation has been lost.

Next were Maria Vasilyeva and Katya Kaminsky from UI Design. They talked about their experience with remote usability testing. They are increasingly using this approach to study the behavior of users from other cities and have accumulated decent experience. Remote testing is no cheaper than usual and requires more time to prepare and conduct, and also has limitations on the technical part and minimal experience of the respondents. But the subjects work in their natural environment, and the researcher saves time on business trips. Unfortunately, half of the video recording of the presentation was lost.

Katerina Umnova attended the eleventh UXWeek 2013 conference in San Francisco and shared with us her impressions of how she went and what was interesting about the event. Katya walked on key topics, presentations and master classes - a good review was obtained.

In conclusion, Ivo Dimitrov ( InGenius Systems / UI Modeling Company ) talked about the practical use of gamification. To do this, he took the octalysis of Yu-Kai Chou as a key model , a tool for identifying specific game mechanics in interface design. He described eight key practices and specific patterns for each of them, and gave examples of popular web services with octalysis models. In the end, Ivo offered the audience a table for calculating the game model.
UX-Environment is an open event, we invite not only speakers, but also listeners from other companies.
