A project to develop an Open Hardware version of the famous Nokia N900 , on the OpenMoko hardware platform , Neo900 , completed the first phase of development, introducing the motherboard of the future device with a soldered LTE modem , just a month after the announcement of the start of development.
The ultimate goal of the project is the ability to provide owners of the original N900 with a hardware upgrade of their device by replacing their motherboard with a motherboard with modern components, an LTE modem, a faster processor and a large amount of memory. Also in the plans, the addition of a compass and a gyroscope. Of course, the device should be fully compatible with the native N900 operating system Maemo 5 .

The project works on the principle of crowdfunding and at the moment has been collecting money that will be enough to produce 188 devices. According to the developers, if they find money for 1000 devices (and even better for 1000 devices per month;) then the price will drop significantly.
