Linux Mint 16 RC Petra Released



    Yes, Linux Mint developers have unveiled the first Linux Mint 16 release candidate, called Petra. The previous version is called "Olivia". Some female names, just like in the case of hurricanes.

    This distribution has received a number of fixes, improvements and additions, a complete list of which can be found on the developers website . In particular, it is worth highlighting the appearance of a new applet that allows you to turn off notifications, view and change settings, switch users, end your session, and more.

    The “Account Details” function has also appeared, where you can change the password, name and picture of the user. You can do this in a couple of clicks.

    System administrators have at their disposal the “Users and Groups” tool, which facilitates the management of individual users and their groups.



    Among other things, the developers added many improvements to the graphical interface, added scoring of events and generally “combed” the system. According to the developers, now you can boot the system and log in faster than before.



    The distribution is available in 32 and 64 bit versions, for each of which you can choose your own window interface: MATE or Cinnamon. Each comes with a selection of popular applications, including the Firefox browser, the LibreOffice office suite, and more.
