Thoughts on not understanding future prospects

This morning, while reading this article , I involuntarily had several thoughts that I would like to share.
Now there is no scope of projects that was observed in the 60s. Young people are no longer so inspired by flights into space, now he has ceased to be something distant and unknown, all romance has left him. Not that it would be all, but its lion's share - for sure. And now an interesting phenomenon is being observed - young people are drawn to IT. I don’t know why every individual is drawn there. Maybe someone is attracted to money, but I have a suspicion that the very “romance of the unknown” that computers present - the freedom of endless creativity, “life in a dream” - when everything that you do, lives only with your own role in your head. Maybe I'm idealizing, and maybe I'm not right at all. But I think so.

Now the magnitude that was in the twentieth century is not visible - people were eager for what they see and perceive: into space, into the depths of the ocean, into the structure of the atom, they tried to increase the speed of movement, improve housing conditions, create something grandiose. This is what captures young and living minds, making them tremble. After all, each person gives his best as much as possible if he is really interested. He does not need extra money, he does not need fame and does not need recognition - he creates something that completely captures his imagination, turning into an obsession. And if earlier these ideas were clear to everyone - people saw what was happening around and that something fundamental was being created, which, if not touched, could be seen for sure.
And now (or rather, a little over ten years ago) the moment has come that most ordinary townsfolk, who at one time admired people like Gagarin, stumbled into a wall of misunderstanding. They are not able (do not want / cannot) understand what is happening in the IT world and what occupies the minds of young people who have come to this area. I do not want and do not try to say that ordinary people are stupid. No, not at all. The only thing I want to convey is that they are different. It is impossible for them to understand how an abstract text, highlighted in different colors, can turn into some abstract structures that interact with each other, how whole complex systems grow into programmers' heads, divided into modules and functioning only in the imagination. Once, one of the Khabrovsk citizens said very well: “Don't wake up a programmer” and was completely right,
They say that humanity does not solve global problems, that we have buried ourselves and are marking time in one place. But perhaps we simply don’t realize the width of our steps - after all, being on the verge of progress or, in other words, considering the systems in too close an approximation, we are not able to realize how wide we are striding. After half a century, it will be noticeable what this "splitting in place" has achieved. And now - we simply cannot notice it.
See how beautiful cosmic rockets or the atom fission reaction are - a triumph of engineering thought, which cannot fail to capture with its beauty and the width of the flight of thought. Look at what was created in the twentieth century. Each invention is striking in its beauty, both from the point of view of mathematics and from the point of view of its functional purposes.
Now look at what has been done over the past 50 years, at modern technology and at what will come. Think about how amazing and wonderful things were created by engineers in the “imaginary” world - every time I think about how many abstractions and the number of mechanisms involved there is entering the habr.ru address into the browser, starting from pressing the keys on the keyboard (phone / tablet) and drawing characters on the screen, to the most complicated system of converting text into bytes, them, in turn, into pulses and routing these pulses. I really involuntarily have a feeling of awe and delight in the fact that people were able to achieve this.
Now it has become possible to dream in reality, and dreams, as you know, are very characteristic of young people. And now there is an opportunity to create your dreams with your own hands. Previously, they discussed and calculated the trajectories along which the rocket would perfectly bring down the enemy ship. We have been discussing for four days how to make dropbox for ideal user use.
Did we grind or the knowledge gained over the past 13 years of the new millennium threw us onto a new, “invisible” side of science and progress?
I think neither one nor the other, it seems to me that this is just a new round that will bring many wonderful discoveries. It's only the beginning.
