Sony and GeoHot settled the conflict

It seems that the threat of prosecution of the GeoHot hacker has passed - the other day, Sony Corporation announced that the conflict has been resolved. True, it is not known how, but it is known that the peace agreement between the corporation and GeoHot was signed on March 31. Sony representatives recently said that they are very glad that the conflict has been settled, and the parties were able to agree.

Previously, GeoHot has repeatedly stated that he was not going to provoke someone to commit illegal actions with his actions, and he himself studied the console in order to study the possibility of installing third-party software, and not in order to damage Sony. Be that as it may, Sony is a fairly powerful adversary, and for some reason one has to doubt that a peace agreement is beneficial for both parties.

On his personal blog, the hacker has not yet commented on the agreement. But he said that he was joining a large-scale campaign, the purpose of which was to boycott the products of this corporation. As you can see, GeoHot is clearly not particularly pleased with Sony's actions, and who could be satisfied in such a situation?

On Habré the legality of studying and “hacking” a purchased game console was already being discussed, comparing the process of changing it with a car modding. Indeed, no one sues thousands of tuning lovers who change cars beyond recognition. In general, there really is something to discuss.

In any case, this situation with GeoHot may turn a rather large number of users away from Sony products - after all, who knows what the company will do next time, trying to protect its “intellectual property”, which seems to be selling for money, but the person who bought the console for a rather large amount is not its full owner, is it so?
