How we did the video for Shadow Fight 2
We made a video for our new game Shadow Fight 2 and we want to talk about its creation. We recently talked about the video for the Vector game, but just a little. This time there will be more useful information and pictures too :)

As usual, work on the video begins with a storyboard. When creating a storyboard, ideas for the visual style of the video are already emerging. However, in most cases, references are collected first. Since the game is dedicated to martial arts, I wanted to convey the appropriate atmosphere. Traditional oriental painting is great for this, but the technique is extremely difficult for animation. Therefore, I had to dwell on the averaged "West-East" comic version.

After that, the adaptation of game characters for the video began. As a result, such model sheet appeared.

Then came the turn of layouts (layout - drawn storyboard). Based on the layouts, a detailed animatic was compiled.

In some scenes, such “sheets” were used for imperceptible transitions between frames.

Sometimes it was necessary to use “bed-like” compositions to create the effect of smoke and dust. In order to get dust clouds, the layers simply shift in a certain direction.

However, in some scenes, dust and sand should be as spectacular as possible. In this case, the animation is best done by hand.

The process of drawing frame-by-frame animation in itself is not the most interesting activity, so I will talk about this in a nutshell. The traced frame is filled in the desired colors, a shadow is added. Then the assembly is carried out.

The video also used cross-animation. Some tasks are easier to solve with her help.

Each scene undergoes approximately such processing before the finished frame appears.
Surely you noticed a gorgeous fire made using the Trapcode Particular plugin.
You can consider a project with this fire by downloading it from the official Trapcode website.
The narrator's voice is Dennis Bateman. Voice recording was again done by Bad Animals . It is very pleasant to work with Americans, because not every studio can offer almost immediately 50 voice actors. However, among all the actors, we chose the person who spoke for Pyro and Spy in Team fortress 2 and many other AAA games.
The music was answered by the composer who created the soundtrack for King's Bounty. This is Michael “Lind Erebros” Kostylev .
Sound was made to us by Principle Audio Recording Studio.
The result of collaboration was this video:
And finally. Our company is developing, we are becoming stronger and offer you to grow with us. Now we are conducting a wonderful internship program that allows talented people without experience to try themselves in creating games. Details at http://nekki.ru/talents/ .
