New 144p video mode appears on YouTube

Congestion on some Google CDN servers has recently led to a decrease in the download / caching speed of YouTube videos. It got to the point that a video in normal quality can be watched without “brakes” only with the help of a third-party program, saving the video file to a computer.

A hack with blocking the most loaded CDNs became popular , which allows individual users to speed up downloading videos from YouTube, but is not acceptable for everyone.

Google itself understands the problem and is taking steps to at least slightly offload the CDN. A couple of days ago a new video quality mode appeared on YouTube: 144p . It is suitable for users on a thin channel.

YouTube videos are available in 240p to 4K quality. Now this range has been extended downward. 144p quality will help those users who are experiencing problems with the download / caching speed or are watching video from a mobile device where the tariff is payable for megabytes.

Many use YouTube as a large music library, that is, to listen to music. Recently, even the real you.fm YouTube radio , which works in the style of Pandora, has appeared. Indicate the name of the artist or group in the search bar - and a list of music tracks from YouTube is displayed on the screen, you can listen to them directly in the browser, but the video here is an optional bonus.

All you need to remember is that the sound on YouTube degrades along with the degradation of the video (thanks, gonzzza):

    1080p >> 192 kbps >> AAC
    720p >> 192 kbps >> AAC
    480p >> 128 kbps >> AAC
    360p >> 128 kbps >> AAC
    240p >> 64 kbps >> MP3

So far, the new 144p quality mode has appeared only on some videos.
