OneTesla: Tesla Coil as a Musical Instrument
Unfortunately, it was not possible to embed the video with the presentation. If that, then here it is .
OneTesla is a small Tesla coil connected via MIDI port and playing music with electric discharges. The device itself, which is about 25 centimeters high, can issue lightnings up to half a meter long. This unit can arrange a good show and surprise your friends with a musical plasma. All device specifications are open and available along with assembly instructions on the project website .
How does she play music?
The human ear perceives sound waves somewhere from 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz, while the device resonates at a frequency of 230 kHz, which significantly exceeds the maximum sound frequency heard by a person. But you can turn the discharges on and off precisely with the frequency with which we hear the sound we need.

Appearance of the device
A little bit about how it works
- The driver board connects to the household electrical network, feeds the entire device. Also, it receives an optical (to protect delicate sound electronics from high voltage) signal from the interrupter board.
The appearance of the driver board
- To the board-breaker based on ATmega328P-PU microcontroller MIDI-connected device, the signal from which is converted by the microcontroller to set the pulse on and off the generation of discharges. By the way, the interrupter is polyphonic (it can play two notes at a time) and with a handle that controls the power.
