Ubuntu Linux "taught" to work Rockchip RK3066 (for example, ug802)

As you know, the Rockchip RK3066 chips are dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processors with a core frequency of 1.6 GHz. These processors are very popular among Chinese manufacturers that produce a large number of various mobile devices, tablets, mini-PCs based on these processors. Most of these devices are Android-based, as Rockchip developers did not provide many tools / documentation / source codes for third-party software developers.

But there was still a way out. Developer AndrewDB was able to port Ubuntu 12.10 to work on UG802 (and other devices based on RK3066). This work was made possible thanks to the bq Edison tablet manufacturers, who posted the source code for the tablet core.

A couple of developers began working on porting the Linux desktop distribution for devices based on the RK3066. But AndrewDB has made the most progress on this. He described his work in detail, having also posted quite a lot of photographs showing the progress of his work.

At the moment, Ubuntu for UG802 is working, but there are still some problems (how could they be without them). For example, WiFI only works if an external module is connected. You can work with Bluetooth, but also requires an external module. And the speed of data transfer via USB is not too good.

On the other hand, he almost achieved success in working with 1080p monitors when connected to the built-in HDMI port.

A lot of work has already been done, but, of course, all this needs to be improved. If more developers join the work of AndrewDB, then it will soon be possible to speak of complete success in porting Ubuntu 12.10. In any case, a lot has been done in a short period of time.
