SSD prices continue to decline

The other day an interesting report on the dynamics of prices for SSD-drives was published. SSD prices after the flood in Thailand, which led to the failure of the main production capacities of enterprises that created components for hard drives, at the same time affected the cost of SSD drives. Such storage media began to become cheaper, unlike their "mechanical" counterparts.

In addition to flooding, permanent competition between major manufacturers of SSDs, including Intel, Samsung, Corsair and OCZ, also affects prices. The average drop in prices for SSDs over the past year was 46%, if we take the total drop for all popular manufacturers. Such a sharp decrease in the cost of solid-state drives was manifested for the first time in the entire time that SSDs existed in the storage media market.

Now eight popular models have a decline in value below the limit of $ 1 per 1 GB of available volume. There are models with a higher price / volume ratio, but these are rather premium models, rather than budget SSD models. The decrease in the price of solid-state drives while increasing the price of hard drives gradually leads to an increase in the popularity of the former (it is clear that the price is not the only factor, but one of the main ones).

Below is the price reduction for the most popular drive models of well-known manufacturers. Prices have fallen and are falling, including both budget models and corporate ones.
