Using a secret code to block a mobile phone takes too much effort, right? Indeed, in this case, in order to start a new Angry Birds session, it will take more time. But you can’t do without an email password, but it can be short and simple, and in order not to get confused in passwords, it is better to use the same combination for different accounts. Moreover, attach a sticker with a password on the computer screen and tell it to a friend you trust, so be sure not to forget it.

A familiar story? Many users neglect their own safety on the Internet: someone does not attach much importance to this or does not believe that the data posted online can be protected, and someone does not know the security rules on the Web. At first glance, we are talking about children or novice users (and these can be people of all ages, including our grandparents, who are increasingly exploring the Internet). In fact, knowledge of how to manage personal data on the Internet is often not enough for experienced users. In order to help our users protect information on the Web and avoid various risks, we launched a special educational portal, “ Good to Know ”.

This portal contains information about the main threats on the Internet, including phishing, malware and viruses, online store fraud, communication risks and identity theft. The most complex technological processes are explained here very simply, so even with a minimal level of computer training you can figure out the cookie settings or the features of IP addresses .

We talk in detail about how to avoid existing risks, create strong passwords , protect your account with two-step authentication , make sure the network connection and the reliability of the website are secure, and manage your own dataon the Internet, posted both on Google’s resources and products, and on any other sites and social networks.

Google always informs users about the terms of use of the products and privacy settings for each of them. Today, all useful information is collected on one portal, which works in 60 languages. We have no secrets from users: on the portal we talk in detail about what information Google stores about you and for what purposes, as well as how to protect the data that becomes available online.

The Good to Know portal is integrated with Google’s other educational resource , Child Safety Online, which contains information on how to protect the youngest Web users. The resource talks about how to activate parental control settings on Google products, as well as how to protect your child from communication risks that filtering technologies cannot cope with, including unwanted dating on the Internet, cyberbullying, game addiction, etc.

Google pays great attention to user safety we develop special tools , allow you to filter inappropriate content (safe search, safe mode on YouTube, age filter mobile applications, etc.), and mechanical we have a custom control, through which you can complain about the illegal, adult or other inappropriate content on our resources and report abuse. However, no filtering technology can replace the digital literacy skills of the users themselves, the training of which can be started using our new portal.
