PHPDocumentor teamed up with Docblox

Somewhat earlier, I already wrote about the emergence of a new PHP engine for automatically generating Docblox documentation ( here and here ). Today, I was surprised to find that now all the innovations from Docblox migrate to PHPDocumentor . The previous branch of PHPDocumentor 1.x is now considered obsolete, and the main innovations will appear in the branch 2.x. The official phpDocumentor website has also been updated. Here is the text of the message from the Docblox website:

We present you phpDocumentor 2 - a merger of the old (phpDocumentor) and the new (DocBlox)

With the first alpha version of phpDocumentor (2.0.0a1), the “Responsive” template is introduced by default with a new look and useful design improvements added to the Docblox templates. Old phpDocumentor templates will not be used in the new branch and will be available only in version 1.x.x. An example of applying the new template is available at http://demo.phpdoc.org/Responsive/index.html .

What does this change mean for users of DocBlox and phpDocumentor? The old phpDocumentor is retiring, and although bugfixes may appear in phpDocumentor 1.x, the main efforts will be made to develop the 2.x branch. Therefore, when the 2.0.0 branch becomes stable, a new version of phpDocumentor, including new functionality and fixes for existing bugs, will be released once a month.

Existing DocBlox resources will be redesigned and will not be deleted, so current project participants can continue working without additional formalities.

Discussion is also taking place on the #phpdocumentor channel on Freenode and on @phpDocumentor Twitter.

Well, let's hope this merge breathes new life into phpDocumentor.
