The creator of BitTorrent is going to destroy television in its current form

Bram Cohen has announced a new version of the BitTorrent protocol. It is called BitTorrent Live and is designed to organize video broadcasts through peer-to-peer networks. The programmer took three years to develop a new protocol, but now even with a multi-million audience, the delay in transmitting video does not exceed five seconds.

BitTorrent Live will reduce the load on the file distributor to 99%. Thus, video transmission will cost less than satellite or CDN, and it will not require expensive infrastructure.

The creator of the protocol said that he wants to destroy television in its current form: "The physical infrastructure of television will inevitably die out, but television as a model for consuming content will remain."

Now Cohen is looking for partners who agree to distribute their content on the model he proposed. Netflix and Hulu, who plan to cut infrastructure costs, are already interested in the invention. By the way, non-commercial broadcasters will be able to use BitTorrent Live - the new protocol is open and free.

BitTorrent Live is already running in test mode. You can watch video using the new protocol through live.bittorrent.com , after downloading a special client.

Upd: Be merciful: let me remind you that the project is still in the testing phase. For someone, everything worked , for someone lags. Habravchanin ZloY_ZusuL helpedInstalling the latest version of Chrome.

As flight suggests , the brakes may be due to the relatively small number of users. Since the system is sharpened for television audiences, this is quite logical. Let me remind you that under the watched video there are buttons “Feedback” and “Problems? ". I suggest not to be shy to inform the developers about the problems found.
