STALKER company ceases to exist

    image
Probably, many hawkers are familiar with the world-famous STALKER series of games, which the Ukrainian company GSC Game World has been producing since 2007. Despite the delayed release dates, the official circulation of the first part of the STALKER series: “Shadows of Chernobyl” amounted to 950 thousand copies in the CIS and 700 thousand in the West, which is a very high result for a company from Eastern Europe. Many publications and gamers characterized the game as a "cult."

Today it became known that Sergey Grigorovich - the founder and CEO of GSC Game World - at the meeting of the labor collective announced the closure of the company, explaining his decision with personal motives.

An informed source inside the company emphasized that part of the work team (about 50 people work in the company) connects the closure of the company with Grigorovich’s dissatisfaction with the development of the game STALKER 2, which was due to be released in 2012, and some with the interest of one of the companies power structures, which began, according to the source, about two months ago, making a reservation, however, that this is only his assumption.

It is worth recalling that the prequel and sequel to “Shadows of Chernobyl,” called “Clear Sky” and “Call of Pripyat”, respectively, did not have such success as the first part, in connection with which the fans of the series had high hopes for STALKER 2. Therefore, a logical question arises about the fate of one of the most successful games created on the territory of the CIS - will the development be finally stopped or will any company take up the project further developing the game further?

UPD: from the submission of the habrazer Yakiv_Gluck in the blog of the marketing director of 1C-Softklab Ukraine Sergey Galenkin, you can find out some details about GSC. In particular, the version of the raider attack is not confirmed by him.
