Mielophone - a month later

    Introduction

With the public release of the first version (v0.1.0) mielofon was exactly a month. I thought that it would be interesting for the habrosociety to look at the numbers that were achieved in this small open source project.

    What was done

I'll start, perhaps, with a list of features that were made and released this month. Here are the most difficult of them (plus a bunch of small ones that are not serious to talk about :)):
    • “Market” of plugins is essentially a catalog of plugins for music search with 1-click installation
    • Extension system for the interface - allows you to create extensions that can change literally anything
    • Integration with the new Facebook Opengrap API - publishing listened tracks in Spotify style (still in the process of approval in the back of facebook)
    • Scrobbling on last.fm
    • Playlists
    • Search by video and mood
    • Radio section

    What happened in a month

Now some interesting numbers (statistics and all that). But first, I want to note that there were no particularly tricky attempts to promote the application (paid advertising, for example). At the time of launch, I made publications on Habr, ycombinator, reddit and leprosy. It is worth noting that on the same reddit, the post was not noticed at all (although maybe I just do not know how to write them). So, now the numbers themselves.

Perhaps I'll start with the repository. Currently, the repository on the github has 46 observers and 3 forks. In total, 77 issues were closed in a month, for this it took more than 4000 lines. A separate design repository was created so that everyone could participate in the process.

The penultimate version of Mielofon (v0.2.3, sagged the longest without updating) was downloaded more than 5000 times! Most interestingly, more than 10% of the downloads come from the Linux version.
Over a month, more than 500 followers on Twitter and more than 300 likes on Facebook were typed.
Every day, an average of 300 new visitors visit the myelophone website.
And the most interesting number - donations - for the month in a total amount of about 50 euros was collected. Interestingly, most of the donations were from Russian users (to be honest, I expected a completely different picture).

In addition, Mielofon was added to several software directories: filecluster, brothersoft and softpedia. And after adding, they simply put me before the fact with the help of email. They promised to put directories for hanging up the catalogs on the website in the recommended software section (they hung up the badges, but they placed them or not - they did not check them).
Also, almost immediately after the launch, lifehacker.com wrote about Mielofon. Unfortunately, the number of downloads did not increase at all. But it gave ~ 10k video views on YouTube.

If there are any questions that I did not cover in the article, I am ready to answer (if possible). It will be very interesting to see what happens with the project next.
