If This Then That (ifttt). Web Services Link Mashup

If you have ever used the Yahoo! Pipes , then imagine the methods of creating such mashups in which third-party services interact with each other. For example, you can automatically save in Instapaper all the articles that you have marked in Google Reader, or send a message in the mail if it rains tomorrow.

Yahoo! Pipes is a wonderful service, and several articles on Habré are devoted to it, but it has a drawback: it is quite difficult to configure. The developers of the site ifttt.com (If This Then That) tried to make the interface as simple as possible.

Indeed, it turned out easier nowhere. You go to the page and literally poke the links between the web applications (channels) that should interact.

Only 35 channels are currently supported, but new ones are constantly being added. Each channel can be a data source (this) or a target (that). After registering in the service, you bind to your account the necessary channels, which become active, the rest are grayed out.

To connect channels with each other, you need to create a “task”, specify the necessary trigger for the data source and the desired action for the target channel.

After that, you need to specify a name for the new task - and it can be activated at any time. Successful tasks can be put on public display (recipes), as well as see popular tasks made by other users, add them to yourself with one click.

PS The site ifttt.com was once mentioned on Habré (in June), but then registration was still on invites.
