Appearance

The first thing that catches your eye is a small amount of gloss, which is now a rarity.
The lid of the laptop is covered with a relief pattern:
Cap

Thus, you can forget about scratches and fingerprints.

Around the keyboard is the metal part of the case:

on it, scratches and prints will also not be visible, sometimes spots remain if your hands are sweaty, but thanks to the IceCool cooling system, your hands are not at all hot.
The bottom of the laptop is also matte, on this the matte finish ends and then comes the gloss. It is located between the buttons on the keyboard, which in my opinion is a bad decision, because you don’t always get to the center of the buttons, as a result fingerprints appear between them:

The keyboard is the most ordinary, without additional media buttons, all through Fn: The

frame around the screen, like the screen itself is glossy, they show the smallest dust and prints:

As I tried, I couldn’t erase all the dust, the smallest dust is immediately visible in the Foto.
Even if I left the glossy screen, then why I didn’t make the gloss around it, apparently Asus had its own design idea, if the gloss around the screen can be explained, then the gloss on the keyboard put me into a stupor.
On the right there are two USB2.0 ports, a microphone and headphone jack, DVD drive:

On the left, one USB2.0 port, HDMI, D-sub (VGA), 1Gb LAN, power supply connector:

This arrangement of ports, which for some reason notebook manufacturers loved for some reason, annoys me personally, because the devices sticking out of the ports prevent me from moving the mouse.
For example, I always have a mouse and a stand connected, this is how it looks: A

card reader appears on the rounding of the case:

On / off, power, HDD, radio interfaces and Caps Lock displays are not very successful, because the LED is clearly visible or not at right angles or in low light.
For example, if you look from above, then everything is clearly visible:

But it is worth making the angle sharper and even when lighting a table lamp, what is on and what is not visible.

If you close the light source with something, then everything is visible:

But this means that during the daytime on sunny days you will need to look closely or cover your hand with light each time to see if the laptop is working or if Wi-Fi is turned off.

Performance and uptime

The Windows 7 performance index was 5.9, the notebook’s HDD is rated as much and this is the smallest mark.

The laptop heats up relatively weakly, at the time of the review at an ambient temperature of 21 degrees, at a simple processor temperature it holds about 45 degrees, the video card is completely cold ~ 40, HDD ~ 33.
In the FurMark test, the laptop warmed up to 81-82 degrees, which I think is normal, because the old DELL could easily turn into a stove with 100 degrees inside and turn off from overheating.

At maximum speeds, the cooler is almost inaudible, the laptop stand makes more noise than he does. The sound of the HDD is not heard at all, the impression is that inside there is an SSD at all.

Duration of work when running Chrome (approximately 20 tabs), Word, Winamp and all this over Wi-Fi:
In the economic mode (standard settings set by the proprietary Power4Gear Hybrid utility) and the minimum brightness is almost 5 hours.
In High Performance mode, the laptop can last about 3 hours.
I did not check the battery life during the game, but it will work for at least 1 hour.
This battery life is achieved through NVIDIA Optimus technology , which optimizes the graphics card, or rather switches between a discrete graphics card and built-in. What kind of video card will be used depends on the selected power plan, but you can also set certain settings for individual applications, for example, so that when a certain game starts, the laptop switches to work from a discrete video card.

There were no additional accessories with the laptop.

Conclusion

Pros:
- Partially matte.
- Scratch resistant.
- Not too hot.
- Productive enough for its size.
- Price / quality - very worthy.
- Convenient touchpad with multi-touch.
- Long battery life.
Cons:
- Again, gloss, screen and frame around it.
- Multimedia buttons work only in WMC.
- When installing drivers, it is impossible to know in advance which company is worth the equipment, I had to search by VID so as not to be overkill.
- I would not refuse USB3.0 and / or eSATA port combined with USB.

I bought this laptop to replace the old DELL Vostro 1310, which finally broke down. I did not regret that I took not 15 ", but 13" it seemed a little. As a result, I got a gaming laptop (by my standards), and at the same time with a long battery life. After a whole glossy cover on the DELL, I can’t stop rejoicing in the matte cover on Asus. The touchpad is much larger than on the DELL and it has multi-touch, which facilitates working on a laptop outside the house (there are standard gestures for which you can put a certain function).
Satisfied with the purchase, a laptop is worth the money.
