At Finam FM studio - Vasily Gatov, head of the media research center RIA Media Lab, vice president of the Guild of Periodicals Publishers, and Arseny Tarasov, general director of the Russian representative office of Adobe Systems. 1. The St. Petersburg public organization of consumers of intellectual property in July filed a lawsuit against the social network "VKontakte", the business online newspaper "Marker" reports. Motive - the presence of porno materials on the pages of the site. The organization’s lawyer Alexey Nachinkin, part-time lawyer for porn producer Sergei Pryanishnikov, in an interview with the publication claims that she “acts exclusively in the civil interest”. The plaintiff claims to prohibit the search and distribution of porn videos within the service. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 20.
- Does the lawsuit have real prospects?
- Vasily Gatov: “The only more or less reasonable policy for VKontakte in the light of the upcoming IPO is to completely shut down the use of audio and video streaming for a while.”
- Arseny Tarasov: “I’m curious here that the issue of intellectual property in principle is becoming acute in our legal field.”
2. Over half of Russian Internet users are not able to distinguish licensed content from unlicensed content, show the results of a study by the Public Opinion Foundation and the Internet in Figures magazine. Three quarters of the Runet’s audience do not consider it a norm to pay for media content. Of these, approximately 40% refer to its high cost, and 13% - the ability to find the necessary materials in the public domain. At the same time, according to the results of the study, about 13 million residents of the country are really ready to pay for the consumption of legal information on the Web.
- What do these numbers mean for Russian web business?
- Arseny Tarasov: “As soon as convenient services for buying legal content arise, the situation will change radically.”
- Vasily Gatov: “When you become an advanced user, you find that the same content can be offered to you for free, only for certain actions on your part, for self-identification.”
- Torrents are not really the main problem of copyright holders?
3. The microblogging service Twitter has implemented the attachment of images to posts. Pictures are stored on the servers of the Photobucket project. The limit on the size of the image file is three megabytes. In the future, Twitter promises to introduce the function of user galleries, which will include including images uploaded through third-party web services.
- How far will Twitter go from its original business model?
- Vasily Gatov: "The vast majority of us do not need such real-time services yet."

About 600 million rubles are supposed to be spent on the project.
- What will be a Rosreestr card?
- Arseny Tarasov: “The amount for the implementation of such a project is reasonable.”
- Vasily Gatov: “About 80% of the population of Russia, which does not live in big cities, is very closely connected with the cadastre.”
- Will Rosreestr add additional Internet functions to its cards?
5. Through a chat on the social network Facebook, the malicious Trojan Win32 / Delf.QCZ is distributed. It mainly affects user accounts in the post-Soviet space. The virus is potentially capable of stealing data of various types - from passwords and logins of your Facebook account to private financial information. In some cases, it can block anti-virus software.
